University of Notre Dame, McKenna Hall Replacement
A new Collegiate Gothic−style building complements the campus context while housing a conference center and the enrollment division.
overview
Located prominently near the University’s entrance, a new building replaces the existing McKenna Hall to house a conference center and the enrollment division. It was designed in the Collegiate Gothic−style to achieve continuity with the campus context.
We provided structural design services to HBRA Architects and construction engineering services to Lejeune Steel Company for the project. The 85,000-square-foot building includes a two-story east wing and four-story west wing connected by a circulation tower. Features include conference and meeting rooms, presentation rooms, offices and a fixed-seat auditorium.
highlights
- The masonry-clad building features a superstructure framed in steel utilizing shear walls for lateral resistance.
- The classic Notre Dame gabled roofs and dormers, also framed in steel, support slate roofing.
- Our construction engineering services included Advanced Project Delivery (APD) and providing shop drawings for the structural steel frame.
