State Farm Arena Renovation
Golf, haircuts and the NBA may seem like an unlikely trio, yet they converge at State Farm Arena — a venue for unique live entertainment experiences.
Overview
The interior of State Farm Arena has undergone a transformation that is redefining the live entertainment experience.
The renovated arena features a 360-degree videoboard and concourse, along with additional screens that create 12,000 square feet of video space. Two levels of reimagined suites, upper-deck seating and a party space replaced the six-story stack of suites on one side of the court. Walls that previously obstructed views of the court from the concession areas were removed, and over 100,000 square feet of office and storage space have been converted for use by visitors. New restaurants, concession stands, a barber shop and suites for virtual golf have turned visits to the arena into a social hub.
We provided structural design services to HOK for the arena's renovation, and also provided structural design for the construction of the original arena which opened in 1999.
Highlights
- The renovation involved demolishing four concrete columns that supported the existing roof trusses and constructing a new transfer truss, spanning approximately 175 feet, to support the roof trusses without impacting the building envelope. This was the most challenging part of the project.
- To meet the challenges, our team efficiently used BIM software, including REVIT and TEKLA, to model existing and new framings, as well as connection details. We also integrated 3D laser scan results for expedited coordination, fabrication and erection.
