Raleigh Union Station Bus Facility
Improving transit connectivity and promoting housing affordability at a mixed-use development.
Overview
A mixed-use development in Raleigh's Warehouse District will soon be a revitalized area to commute and reside. The complex will be within a vibrant shopping, nightlife and art cultural area and adjacent to the existing Raleigh Union Station. Along with being an off-street bus facility, the development will include two residential towers with affordable housing options, a plaza with retail space and a private parking garage. The facility will connect intercity rail, local, regional and express bus services and enhance pedestrian and bicycle spaces.
We are providing structural design services to Perkins Eastman for the development, which is scheduled to open in 2026.
Highlights
- The structures consist of reinforced concrete with post-tensioned concrete slabs and a concrete shear wall lateral system.
- Transfer girders are utilized above the first floor to transfer parking structure above, allowing for large open spaces within the transit facility.
- Our Applied Science group is providing analysis for vehicular impact studies on columns in the bus loop.
