University of Miami, Lakeside Village
Modern Miami living community, integrated academic and student services, flexible event and recreational spaces and locations for retail operations — all on one site.
Overview
With its modern Miami living community, integrated academic and student services, flexible event and recreational spaces and locations for retail operations all on one site, the 540,000-square-foot Lakeside Village redefines what it means to live, learn and work at the University of Miami. The student housing campus features a 1,115-bed housing facility comprised of 25 interconnected buildings and also includes study lounges, a 200-seat auditorium, multi-purpose room and recreational spaces.
We provided structural design services to Arquitectonica for the development, which opened in 2020.
Highlights
- Scope of work included the transfer of tall slender concrete columns and walls at level 1 to allow for large open spaces at ground floor by using a system of post-tensioned beams.
- Post-tensioned slabs, concrete walls and columns were included in the work as well as sloped roof slabs with gardens.
- The project features pod buildings linked together by narrow link slabs at each level.
- We also provided structural design services for the main stairs of the development.
