overview
The tallest building under construction in Istanbul, RAMS Beyond Istanbul is engineered to resist severe seismic forces while delivering 360-degree views of the Bosphorus. The design by Dome+Partners features three steel wings connected to a concrete elevator core. Its completion has been a long time coming, with construction commencing in 2002, but then in 2012 the project went on hold for 10 years.
We provided structural design and seismic analysis for the original design and concluded our engagement in December 2010 with a peer review before the project design was later revised. The program includes office space, retail, dining, apartments and a luxury hotel.
highlights
- Because the site is only 24 kilometers (15 miles) from the main Marmara fault – part of the North Anatolian fault system – the tower was designed to withstand severe seismic forces.
- A Y-shaped plan, along with a reinforced concrete core and secondary steel moment frames along each wing, provides lateral force resistance.
- Performance-based seismic design was conducted to ensure that structure would exhibit satisfactory performance under a seismic event.
