The LeBron James Innovation Center at Nike World Headquarters
The 700,000-square-foot world headquarters building is designed to embody Nike’s dedication to speed, curiosity, research and innovation
Overview
Designed to embody Nike’s dedication to speed, curiosity, research and innovation, this 700,000-square-foot world headquarters building is the home of the Nike Sports Research Lab. The building provides work space for over 700 staff members from teams previously scattered across the Nike campus - with several designated co-working areas encouraging transparency and collaboration - and features a large open, four-story, central atrium.
We provided structural engineering services to Olson Kundig for the facility, which opened in 2020.
If we were to build this facility in the woods, we would still be the world’s most preeminent sports science center on the planet.
Highlights
- The research lab is cantilevered 50 feet above the main entry, and features a mega truss structure and waffle slab base.
- The research also lab includes a track, full-sized basketball court, an artificial-turf training pitch, four environmental chambers designed to simulate a variety of conditions and connects to the 100-meter incline ramp on the facility’s exterior.
- Hosting over 825 pieces of testing equipment, the laboratory was engineered to account for vibrational and acoustical isolation to allow for athletes to perform at their full performance during observation, while simultaneously ensuring accurate data collection.
- The project achieved LEED-NC v2009 Platinum certification, making it the largest LEED Platinum building in Oregon.
