King Abdullah Financial District - Hilil Tower
The 138-meter-tall building houses commercial, residential, and retail spaces and features four below-grade parking levels.
Overview
Designed to be the new center for Middle East trade and finance, the King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) north of Riyadh is a 1.6 million-square-meter mixed-use development consisting of 30 plots connected by a series of green recreational spaces.
We provided structural design services for five parcels, including Parcel 3.10 - Hilal Tower, a 37,200-gross-square-meter mixed-use tower that houses commercial, residential, and retail spaces and features four below-grade parking levels..
Highlights
- The structure’s angular setbacks create exterior roof terraces and are tapered to separate the function of each space, with the largest floorplates at the lower levels for retail and offices and the smallest floorplates on the higher levels for residences.
- Several sustainability features, including a locally manufactured stone and glass exterior wall system that uses shading elements and high thermal mass, will assist the tower’s overall energy performance to be more than 40 percent above ASHRAE standards.
