Hearst Tower
The 46-story Hearst Tower was the first New York City skyscraper to break ground after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Securing Hearst Tower
Constructed atop the historic International Magazine Building commissioned by William Randolph Hearst in 1928, the 46-story Hearst Tower was the first New York City skyscraper to break ground after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. It is also the first office high-rise in Manhattan to earn LEED Gold Certification.
We provided protective design and security services to Adamson Associates and Foster + Partners for the 855,989-square-foot high-rise. The tower was completed in 2006.
Highlights
- We worked with the Hearst Corporation, Tishman Speyer Properties, Turner Construction, the architect and design team to establish and implement a variety of protective design and security criteria.
- The building is visually striking due to its diagrid-framing exterior, a cost-effective system that resulted in about 20 percent less structural steel than a conventional steel frame.
