Guaranteed Rate Field Renovation
Bringing fans closer to the action of each crack of the bat and expanded seating options to accommodate visitors.
Overview
Baseball games are as much about the stadium experience as they are about the game itself, from the variety of food options to joining swarms of fans as they attempt to catch a ball that a player hit out of the field. These are the moments that make a baseball trip feel unique.
We provided structural design services to HKS to enhance the stadium experience at Guaranteed Rate Field, home of the Chicago White Sox. The renovations involved refitting the baseline seating configuration, upgrading the main concourse level to bring fans closer to the playing field and adding 600 club seats behind a new home plate, increasing the seating capacity to over 40,000.
Highlights
- The video and advertising boards in the stadium were replaced.
- Eight rows from the upper balcony were removed and a steel canopy - designed to mimic the previously-named Comiskey Park - was installed above the upper grandstand to create a more comfortable environment for spectators.
- An existing pedestrian bridge spanning over 35th Street was renovated to ease fans’ entry to the ballpark.
