Overview
Designed as a hybrid of a sports arena and convention center, the CHI Health Center is among the first contiguous convention centers in the United States and provides flexibility for various sporting events and exhibitions. Featuring a 194,000-square-foot main hall, the complex draws major entertainment and sports events with its 36 luxury suites and seating for 14,500 to 17,000 spectators.
We provided structural design services to DLR Group for the facility, which opened in 2003.
Highlights
- The facility contains a ballroom that accommodates 3,000 people, 30,000 square feet of meeting rooms and parking for 4,760 cars.
- The arena roof is supported by four large trusses that provide dramatic cantilevers.
- In the convention center, two-story deep trusses create a 150-foot-by-270-foot column-free ballroom span.
