Overview

The first World Expo held in the region, Expo 2020 Dubai will host 190 participating countries and millions of visitors to help celebrate three distinctive themes: Opportunity, Sustainability and Mobility. The Expo's Canada Pavilion is a circular, 13,000-square foot, 60-foot-tall structure featuring an interactive winding queue which leads to a central theatre.

We provided structural design and protective design services to EllisDon Construction Ltd. for the temporary pavilion to showcase Canadian innovation.

Highlights

  • The structural system comprises steel braced frames and a steel deck.
  • The architectural facade is a wind screen formed by timber elements arranged in a lattice geometry that represents the coast-to-coast change in elevation across the country.
  • The pavilion is designed for easy disassembly and removal following the completion of the event.
