Overview
The Born Hotel & Continuum Office Building is a mixed-use complex located in downtown Denver’s Union Station redevelopment area. It features a 12-story, 180-room hotel and a five-story 100,000-square-foot office tower. The hotel includes 8,300 square feet of meeting rooms, adjacent prefunction space, a health club and street-level and rooftop outdoor patios. Both buildings sit atop first-level retail and a two-level, 210-space, below-grade parking structure.
We provided structural design services to BOKA Powell & Semple Brown Design for the complex, which was completed in 2017.
Highlights
- To maximize headroom and provide the best structural performance at all levels of the hotel and office, including level P1 which is below-grade, post-tensioned concrete slab was utilized.
- The pedestrian bridge sits on slide bearings on the office side of the complex to allow independent movement of each building. At the hotel entrance area, both at grade level and P1, the building abuts an existing adjacent building. By using knockout panels in the existing building, vehicles are able to access the adjacent parking garage.
- We also provided construction engineering services, including tower crane foundation design.
