overview

Situated in the heart of the city, Audi Field is home to Major League Soccer’s D.C. United and National Women’s Soccer League’s Washington Spirit. The stadium, which was designed by Populous to seat 20,000, features cantilevered roof canopies, large video boards and integral club and amenity buildings in addition to its multitiered seating bowl structures.

We provided peer review services for the stadium structural design and erection engineering services for the steel structure as well as an engineering stability evaluation of the structural steel framing for the construction sequences including loads imposed during construction.

highlights

  • We identified critical sequence requirements for member erection and stability including the large canopy plate girders and frame elements and trussed raker framing.
  • Our scope also included a temporary stability plan and design of temporary bracing and connections as required to facilitate the steel erection.
  • The complex temporary stability analysis that we performed for the large cantilever canopy girders, along with the complex sequence of construction at the seating and amenity structures, helped maintain the construction schedule and ensured the project was completed on time.
