Shock Commissioning Trial Collaboration for Australian Defence
Thornton Tomasetti is excited to announce a recent collaboration with Defence Australia's Navy Engineering Division and Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) on a body of work which will help advance Australian sovereign heavyweight shock testing capability.
Over the past year, a successful shock commissioning trial using explosive ordnance was held to determine the capability of the Australian floating shock platform (FSP), the first time a test of this type has ever been held in Australia. The FSP is capable of shock testing up to 27,000 kg of equipment.
Further commissioning tests are planned this year to look at alternative and more environmentally friendly methods of applying shock loading to the platform via the use of air guns.
The overall activity marks the start of a new sovereign capability to enable Defence Australia and the Defence Industry to conduct heavyweight shock testing and qualification of systems and equipment for the first time in-country.
