The Gramercy House is a red brick and brownstone townhouse located at the southeast corner of Gramercy Park South and Irving Place. Built in 1845, No. 19 Gramercy Park South is a residential gem that has undergone many transformations in size, design and usage, including the addition of a “studio” building to the south circa 1909 (No. 20 Gramercy Park South).
Thornton Tomasetti was retained to provide investigative and design services for the building envelope, including the facades windows and roofs, as well as the complex wood and masonry bearing wall structure. Thornton Tomasetti also provided design consultation services in shaping the design of a bulkhead to provide access to the new roof terrace which received glowing remarks from the New York Landmarks Preservation Commission.
