Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Surgery and Oncology Renovation
Thornton Tomasetti provided structural design of a 107,500-square-foot ground floor renovation that added six operating rooms and a 27-bed nursing unit for oncology and bone-marrow transplants.
The project includes a new mechanical penthouse and a new arcade and canopy entrance. Structural modifications include retrofits to the existing eccentric-braced frames, retrofit of existing concrete shearwall to meet deflection compatibility criteria, plus roof and floor strengthening for mechanical equipment shafts.
