Humboldt State University College Creek Apartments
Thornton Tomasetti is providing structural design services for new student housing at Humboldt State University. College Creek Apartments addresses the college’s housing shortage by providing 99 apartment-style units to accommodate 430 students.
The units are dispersed among four three-story complexes, each with covered walks and elevator/stair cores. Adjacent to the apartments is a 15,000-square-foot, two-story community center with an articulated clerestory. The community center building provides students with study rooms, a multi-purpose great hall, catering facilities, and food service options. Thornton Tomasetti is the structural engineer for the center as well as a nearby single-story restroom, maintenance and soccer building.
All of the buildings are of wood frame construction, with limited steel framing, and conventional slab-on-grade and shallow footings.
