Thornton Tomasetti Announces Four Promotions in Chicago Office

The Thornton Tomasetti Board of Directors and Managing Principals announce the promotion of Thomas D. Poulos, P.E., S.E., to senior principal, and Edward M. Peck , AIA, LEED AP, Robert M. Stadler, P.E., S.E., and Adam Abbes Yala, Ph.D., P.E., to vice presidents in the Chicago office of the international engineering firm.

Mr. Poulos, who leads the firm’s aviation market sector, has been with Thornton Tomasetti since 1997. He has more than 20 years of experience leading complex projects for all types of structures, including design-build.

Mr. Poulos is a licensed Structural Engineer in Arizona and Illinois and a licensed Professional engineer in Colorado, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Wisconsin. He is certified in the practice of structural engineering by the Structural Engineering Certification Board (S.E.C.B.) and is registered with the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying as a certificated Model law Structural Engineer (M.L.S.E.). He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind. and a master’s degree in structural engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.

Mr. Peck, the leader of Thornton Tomasetti’s Midwest U.S. Building Skin practice, has been with the firm since 2008. He has more than 15 years of experience in architecture, building skin technologies and building systems. Throughout his career, he has specialized in projects involving sustainable and innovative building skins, most notably ETFE (ethylene tetrafluoroethylene). He has provided building skin services for a wide range of building types including hospitals, performing arts venues, office buildings and sports and entertainment facilities.

Mr. Peck is a licensed architect in New York and Illinois and certified with the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (N.C.A.R.B.). He holds bachelor’s degrees in both building science and architecture from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. and has undertaken graduate studies in design and architecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Istanbul Technical University in Turkey, and under award-winning architect Rafael Viñoly in master’s classes at the Rafael Viñoly Research Institute.

Mr. Stadler joined Thornton Tomasetti in 1998 and has broad exposure to projects of all sizes, from tenant build-outs to high-rise buildings and long-span structures. His work spans several market sectors, including residential, commercial, healthcare, aviation, cultural, educational and sports facilities. He specializes in economical structural solutions using all types of building materials and has experience in building design in high seismic regions.

Mr. Stadler is a licensed Professional Engineer and a licensed Structural Engineer in Illinois. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Mr. Stadler is a member of the Structural Engineering Association of Illinois (SEAOI) and the American Institute of Steel Construction. He has been a guest lecturer at SEAOI’s Student Chapter at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and has been a panelist and author on topics including seismic design and stadium renovations.

Dr. Yala joined Thornton Tomasetti in 1999. He has provided structural design and analysis services from schematic design through construction administration for many major projects, including office, residential, hospitality, aviation and sports facilities as well as special structures. He is also well-versed in building renovations and restorations, façade repairs, investigations, evaluations, condition assessment and litigation support.

Dr. Yala is a licensed Professional Engineer in Wisconsin. He has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the National Polytechnic School of Algiers in Algeria and master’s and doctoral degrees in structural engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.
